DEFEAT at Audlem means Rylands will remain in Division Two of the Cheshire Alliance next season.

After points deductions for second XI conceded fixtures were applied, the Gorsey Lane club had to beat the team trailing them all season, and do so convincingly.

They were on course to do so after they bowled Audlem out on the leagues' smallest ground for a below par 142.

Andy Thomas picked up another five-wicket haul with 5 for 46, ably supported by Rob Wright who took 3 for 28.

Requiring only 143 to win and keep promotion alive the Rylands’ run chase got off to a terrible start as they were two down inside six overs.

Thomas completed a fine personal game as he top scored with 31, but the collapse to 103 all out ended Rylands' hopes.
