GRAPPENHALL head into the penultimate game of the season bottom of the Cheshire County League top flight.

They lost by 124 runs at Nantwich on Saturday.

Nantwich put in to bat made a solid start, and as their innings developed all of their batsmen took advantage of the small boundaries and Grappenhall`s bowling which was generally well below par.

Three of the home side made half centuries, and in a total score of 303 for 6 declared in 51 overs, there were 29 fours and 12 sixes, 188 runs.

This left Grappenhall a huge task if they were going to effect an unlikely win, even though they had 59 overs at a rate just above five runs an over to achieve this.

Not surprisingly the task proved to be far too great as They were bowled out for 179 in the 30th over.

Jimmy McCoy smashed his way to 77 of just 44 balls, including 15 fours and one six.

Ian Hall also reached his best score of the season with a positive 48 which included a couple of huge sixes way out of the ground.

Other contributions of any note were 17 not out from Alex Matthews and 16 from Gaz Burns.

In taking just four points from the game, this leaves Grappenhall firmly rooted at the bottom of the table.

They would need two wins, and both of the teams above them to take virtually nothing out of their remaining matches.
