WARRINGTON remain top of the Cheshire County League Division Two table despite having to settle for a draw at Upton on Saturday.

The visitors bowled Upton out for 211 but could only make 163 for 8 in return.

Upton set off at an alarming rate looking to post a formidable total and not until James Rudd, 4 for 22, and Brad McIntosh, 3 for 61, were brought into the attack did the rate slow down.

But the home side still set a total of 211.

Nathan Green, 2 for 73, was the other wicket taker.

Warrington started well with a steady partnership between Adam Green, 55, and Malcolm Agar, 15, but the loss of three wickets in the middle order put Warrington behind the clock.

A late rally from skipper Richard Heaney, 36 not out, and Nathan Green, 19, gave them some hope as the home side had to settle for a draw.

Warrington seconds slipped to defeat by four wickets in the reverse fixture at home to their Upton counterparts.

They set Upton a target of 176 in the Second XI First Division, which the visitors reached for the loss of six wickets.

With the loss of two early wickets, on his return Mike Rudd, 72, and James Sharrock, 42, added 92 for the third wicket.

A late contribution from Isaac Webster, 22, and Tom Corroboy, 18, made them the pick of the batsmen as Warrington were bowled out for 175.

The home side's top order mastered the early Warrington attack, before the change bowlers – 13-year-old Arron Soni, 2 for 16, and Billy Gilbert, 2 for 34 – slowed down the run rate.

But Upton could not be stopped as they passed the Warrington total with care.

The thirds lost by seven wickets at home to Urmston.

Put in to bat, Warrington had no answer to the Urmston attack with only two batsmen making it into the teens, Harry Kellett on 19 and Rob Dempster with 13, as they were bowled out for 101.

Defending a low total, Dempster, 2 for 23, and Jack Street, 1 for 28, were the only wicket takers as Urmston won by seven wickets.

Against the league leaders Paul Agar, 67 not out, and Dave Lee, 66, added 120 for the second wicket as Warrington closed on 171 for 2.

Cheadle Hulme reached 175 for 2.
