WARRINGTON were held to a draw at Irby on Saturday in the Cheshire County League Division Two.

However, they remain top an on course for promotion with a 32-point cushion over second-placed Bollington.

On a rain-affected day with a delayed start Irby built their innings slowly to reach a respectable total of 163 for 7, with James Rudd, 3 for 33, and Ashley Scholes, 3 for 41, being the pick of the visiting attack.

With the game interrupted by rain Warrington had to score at five-an-over to win the match.

Opener Nathan Green, 66, led the charge but no other batsman could build a partnership with him as they tried to score quickly.

It was left to a last wicket stand from Tom Clutterbuck and Brad Roden to bat out a draw, with Warrington finishing on 136 for 9.

Warrington seconds lost by 23 runs at their Tattenhall counterparts.

On a day when the game was delayed four times during play Tattenhall made the most of a wet wicket to reach a defendable total of 158 for 7.

Simon Hewitt, 3 for 58, tried to stem the flow of runs with Phil Whelan, 1 for 28, and Chai Gadippalli, 1 for 63, adding support.

Warrington were always behind the clock in their run chase with Tom Corroboy, 34, Tim Rothwell, 25, and Hewitt, 23, trying to convert a start into a good score as the home side fell 23 runs short on 135 all out.

It was a disappointing defeat for the third team, who lost by nine wickets at home to Upton.

Put in on a wet wicket Vijay Doraisamy, 62 not out, carried his bat in making a large percentage of the runs as Warrington were rolled over for 109.

Upton batted freely as they passed the Warrington total for the loss of only one wicket.

The fourth team opening bowlers found it difficult to run in fast at Upton, it was only when the slower bowlers Mans Naseem, 3 for 32, and Jack Street, 2 for 35, were introduced into the attack was the run rate slowed.

Warrington, left with only 27 overs, to pass the home side's total had to settle for a draw on a rain interrupted day.
