WARRINGTON won by five wickets against Stockport on Saturday to stay top of Cheshire County League Division Two.

Warrington had Stockport in check until a ninth-wicket stand of 53 gave the visitors a respectable score to defend, finishing on 174 for 8.

Warrington were best served by Nathan Green, 4 for 59, debutant Brad Roden, 2 for 28, and Brad McIntosh, 1 for 25.

With the loss of an early wicket McIntosh, 32, and Adam Green, 77 not out, redressed the balance.

This was followed by Green and James Lewis, 32, adding 54 for the fourth wicket, enabling Sam Houghton, 18 not out, to score the winning runs to give Warrington a well-deserved five-wicket victory at 178 for 5.

The seconds drew away against their Nantwich counterparts.

On a good wicket, the home side controlled the early part of the game scoring 225 for 5 in their allotted overs.

Ryan Swart, 2 for 63, Phil Whelan ,1 for 45, and Simon Hewitt, 1 for 49, tried to stem the flow of runs as wickets were hard to come by.

Warrington could not match the home side’s run rate as a number of batsmen got in, none went on to convert it to a match-winning score.

Isaac Webster, 38, Simon Swain, 27, Rishav Manta, 27, and Tim Rothwell, 26, all came close to chasing down the target but had to settle for a draw on 184 for 8.

Warrington's fourth team drew at Oxton.

On Oxton’s small ground the home side set a formidable total of 275 for 8 as they declared in the 49th over.

Alan Hitchmough, 3 for 65, Nathan Jeffery, 2 for 40, and Vijay Doraisamy, 2 for 57, were the pick of the bowlers.

Dom Hastings, 80, and Dave Lee, 40, had a good third-wicket partnership of 77 with Les Connolly, 37, and Hitchmough, 26, registering good scores as the game ended with Warrington 200 for 4.
