RYLANDS enjoyed back-to-back wins in Cheshire Alliance Division Two and 40-Over Cup action this weekend.

They boosted their promotion hopes with an eight-wicket win against fourth-placed Styal on Saturday, before booking a cup final spot for the first time in 10 years at Appleton's expense on Sunday.

A couple of quick wickets for Rylands brought in the Styal middle order, who picked up where the opener had left off and set about looking for runs and made 192 for 7.

Andy Thomas was Rylands’ most effective bowler with three wickets.

Opening pair Richard Buck and Eddie Platt put on 69 for the first wicket before Platt departed and Alan Brady joined Buck at the crease.

The former Culcheth Daten pair took no mercy on the Styal bowlers with Buck finally being dismissed for 82, and Brady ending the innings on 62 not out as Rylands reached the victory target with eight wickets and 11 overs to spare.

Brady continued his form with the bat on Sunday, reaching 87.

Rylands won the toss and asked Appleton to bat, but despite a blistering start for the hosts they only posted what looked like a below-par 141, with Sam Mulholland proving unplayable as he picked up five wickets for just 16 runs.

Despite a late loss of wickets for Rylands, Brady’s 87 proved to be a match-winning innings, and the Gorsey Lane side have now booked their place in the final for the first time in a decade.

The second team lost at Old Parkonians in Divison Four on Saturday.

The double spin attack of Andy Barker and Gary Moors both picked up four Parkonian wickets but Rylands fell short with the bat, being dismissed for 110 and losing the match.
