RYLANDS maintained their promotion hopes with victory away at Frodsham on Saturday.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat, looking to secure maximum points against their local rivals.

The Rylands bowling attack proved too much for them though, with the opening combination of brothers Matthew and Alan Brady stifling the scoring before Andy Thomas, 5 for 18, and Mark Green, 2 for 21, came into the attack to rip through the Frodsham line up.

Spinner Sam Mulholland also bagged a pair of wickets on his return to the side to see Frodsham finish with a below par 118 all out.

The Rylands run chase was progressing nicely with openers Wes Jenkins scoring a rapid 38, and Eddie Platt a steady 29, but a steady shower coincided with a flurry of wickets and Rylands found themselves six down when the winning runs were hit by Mulholland.

The 25-point victory ensures they remain second in Division Two.

At Gorsey Lane, the second eleven beat Tranmere Victoria in Division Four.

Rylands batted first and posted an impressive 214 for 7.

Father and son Andrew and James Mansfield the pick of the batsmen with 52 and 42 not out respectively.

The visitors from the Wirral made Rylands work for their victory however, and were only 35 runs short of their target when leg spinner Gary Moors, 4 for 39, claimed the final wicket.

The result solidifies Rylands' mid-table position in Division Four.
