MARTIN Cooper was unbeaten on 64 as Appleton defeated lowly Trafford MV in Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One.

Appleton’s 196 for 8 declared was too much for Trafford, who were skittled out for 80.

Captain Tom Lomas picked up four wickets, and vice captain Aamir Rashid claimed three.

The seconds secured a draw at Trafford, whose opening batsman made 196 out of 328 for 9. Phil Pugh picked up five wickets.

Appleton’s team spirit remained positive, even after losing four quick wickets in reply.

Dave Lomas, 63, captain Ed Sygrove and Mike Arnold saw out a lot of overs and passed crucial milestones to help the side pick up 14 vital points.
