WARRINGTON returned to winning ways in the Cheshire County League on Saturday, keeping a push for promotion on course.

Set a target of 204 to beat Brooklands, a second-wicket partnership worth 77 runs between Mal Agar, 32, and Adam Green, 44, offered promise.

Still needing 91 off 12 overs, Will Fleetwood’s half-century – including four sixes and three fours – made the difference before Nathan Green and Ashley Scholes secured victory from the penultimate ball.

Earlier, Scholes took four wickets in the home team’s 203-7.

Warrington, who host third-placed Mobberley this weekend, trail Division Two leaders Bollington by 27 points.

A LATE order collapse cost Warrington seconds against their Brooklands counterparts, the final six wickets falling for just 33 runs.

It undid initial work done by James Sharrock’s 64 as their innings closed on 178.

The visitors to Walton Lea then made it to 180-4 in reply, captain Simon Hewitt’s figures of 3-55 making him the pick of the bowlers.

WES Charlton and Tom Corroboy took three wickets for Warrington thirds, and Gary Musker a further two, before their Neston counterparts declared at 230-9.

After crashing to 12-5, Tim Rothwell scored 45 in a partial recovery before his side were dismissed for 78 - 153 runs short of their target.

ONLY three batsmen made it to double figures as Warrington fourths fell for just 62 in a nine-wicket defeat against Haslington thirds.

Their guests needed little more than eight overs to secure a comfortable victory.
