APPLETON began their Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One season with a win at Tranmere Victoria on Saturday.

Tom Lomas and Martin Cooper got the side off to solid start, some lovely driving strokes before the latter fell LBW leaving ACC 82 for 1.

Lomas fell for 42 three overs later, as Antony Hurst, 44, took the reins.

Appleton pushed a competitive total up to 187 for 7 at the half way mark on a very low and slow wicket.

In reply, Aamir Rashid at first change used his guile and cunning to take three wickets before drinks.

Some short spells and rotation of bowlers saw a steady tumbling of wickets, with Tranmere bowled out for 135 with nine overs to spare.
