A STOCKTON Heath teenager has added his name to the schools’ cricketers honours board at Lord’s.

Fifteen-year-old Tom Higham took six wickets in St Ambrose College’s annual clash with the MCC, the club that owns Lord’s Ground and the guardian of the laws of the game.

The Warrington CC player also bagged an all expenses paid trip the England versus India Lord’s test and hopes to one day play there as a professional.

“My first love is cricket and my ambition is to become a professional cricketer,” he said. “But a lot of young men at my age say that and I know I can only achieve my goal through sheer hard work.”

Higham, taught by his father and fellow Warrington CC stalwart Paul, is one of the youngest players to feature in the Ambrosians’ first XI.

“Every time I bowl I concentrate on line and length and hitting the top of off stump,” said the year 10 student.

“I can generate a bit of pace and zip off the pitch but hopefully I will only get quicker. At my stage it's about getting the basics right.”

Higham took an astonishing 6 for 34 off 11 overs, with MCC pinching the victory in the final over.

St Ambrose’s head of physical education said: “It was superb spell, hitting the mark every time and moving it both ways off the pitch. It almost gave us a famous victory but we'll be back next year.”
