WARRINGTON’S faint promotion hopes were extinguished on the last Saturday of the season with a 25-run defeat at home to Tattenhall.

The result also saw the visitors pip Warrington to fourth place in the Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two.

The hosts invited Tattenhall to bat and witnessed Karl Adams reach 93 wickets for the season to break the previous league record of 90.

Adams took 4 for 66, Matt Adams, 3 for 29, Ashley Scholes, 2 for 24, and Paul Farrar, 1 for 15, adding support.

Oliver Thompson, 45, was the only Tattenhall batsman to make an impression as the visitors were all out for 135 in the 49th over.

However, a terrible start for Warrington saw reliable openers Chris Kirby and Richard Heaney both out for nought.

Andy Kirby’s 13 and Farrar’s 14 got the scoreboard ticking over, before Mike Rudd, 40, attempted to steer the hosts home but failed to find a partner.

Kyle Adams managed 12 and Ian Sleigh 11 but Warrington’s chances of promotion vanished as they were skittled for 110.

Warrington’s seconds will hope to forget their season finale in a hurry after suffering a 213-run demolition against Cheadle.

Cheadle put the Warrington attack to the sword and fell narrowly short of a league record at 306 for 8.

Paul Agar, 3 for 37, and Isaac Webster, 2 for 49, were the only bowlers to emerge with any credit.

Openers Tax Balmer, 40, and Tom Corroboy, 38, got off to a promising start with a partnership of 68.

However, only Webster, 14, thereafter reached double figures as Warrington were all out for 93.

Warrington’s thirds secured a draw against Macclesfield after batting out 59 overs to finish on 179 for 9.

Macclesfield elected to bat and while Alan Hitchmough, 2 for 72, Tom Fagan-Hall, 1 for 18, and Daren Weisenborn, 1 for 35, bowled manfully they could not halt the flow of runs.

A strong batting performance from the home side saw them declare at 249 for 5 after 41 overs.

Warrington had 59 overs to survive and Dom Hastings scored 46, Wes Charlton, 64, and Hitchmough, 30, before skipper Gary Musker batted out the final six overs for a draw.
