WARRINGTON host Tattenhall on the final day of the Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two campaign knowing they have an outside shot at promotion after winning at Stockport on Saturday.

The visitors beat third-placed Stockport by 55 runs, despite being invited to bat on a lively wicket and witnessing the only significant partnership make 63 for the sixth wicket as Brad McIntosh put on 36 and James Rudd an unbeaten 31.

Richard Heaney weighed in with a steady 34 and Andy Kirby made 23 as Warrington closed their innings on 158 for 6.

Kyle Adams’ accurate seam bowling produced a return of 5 for 42 off 23 overs as the wicket failed to play any better for the hosts.

Matt Adams, 3 for 29, and Paul Farrar, 2 for 10, helped clean up the tail as Stockport were skittled for 103, rekindling hopes that a win against promotion rivals Tattenhall on Saturday could take Warrington into the top two should results go their way.

Warrington’s seconds slumped to a seven-wicket defeat and Stockport’s bowlers had them in trouble from the off, taking the first three wickets for seven runs.

Will Fleetwood, 57, and James Sharrock, 23, brought some stability to the innings, but the only other batsman to record double figures was Ian Sleigh, 27 not out, as Warrington were dismissed for 120.

Stockport made steady progress against the seam attack, but the arrival of Tax Balmer, 2 for 31, and Nick Houghton, 1 for 23, slowed the run rate.

However, Stockport reached their target in the 44th over.

Warrington’s thirds invited Chester Boughton Hall to bat, only to see their bowling mauled as the visitors declared after 42 overs on 254 for 1.

Alan Hitchmough, 1 for 76, was the lone wicket-taker and Tom Corroboy made 28 in reply before Chester ripped through the Warrington middle order with four wickets falling for three runs.

Tim Rothwell, 19, offered some resistance but Chester eased to a 167-run victory, skittling the hosts for 87.

It was a similar fate for the fourths, Dave Lee’s unbeaten 56 the only highlight as they were bowled out for 100 at Chester.

The hosts made short work of the Warrington attack, despite a wicket in the first over, reaching the required runs in 19 overs.
