WARRINGTON’S Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two promotion chances faded along with the light at home to Davenham on Saturday.

Kyle Adams’ seven-wicket haul was not quite enough to give Warrington the win as they batted out a draw in the reduced daylight.

The visitors appeared in deep trouble when Adams’ first six wickets left the score on 81-6, but rearguard action added 149 to the total before the relentless bowler took his final victim at 230 for 7.

Warrington failed to match the required run rate after some tight Davenham bowling, with the only meaningful contributions coming from Chris Kirby, 41, and James Hughes, 29.

They now sit fifth in the Division Two table, 19 points behind fourth-placed Davenham, but more than 100 points off the pace of undisputed league leaders Timperley.

Warrington’s seconds enjoyed a seven-wicket win against Marple as Ashley Scholes, 3 for 27, and Sy Hewitt, 3 for 53, restricted their opponents to 179 for 8, Ryan Swart and Tex Balmer also taking one wicket apiece.

In reply, Warrington got off to a dream start as Craig Vansteenwinkle, 98 not out, narrowly missed out on a century and Will Flood’s unbeaten 36 put on a winning stand of 66.

Warrington’s thirds had to settle for a draw with Brooklands after the home side’s openers made the most of some small boundaries to post 248 for the loss of four wickets.

Joel Chaderton, 2 for 57, Ben McCarthy, 1 for 31, and Billy Gilbert, 1 for 42, did their best to stem the flow of runs for the visitors.

Warrington replied with 186 for 6 following Alan Hitchmough’s unbeaten 71. He formed a partnership of 103 with Chaderton, 54, but the loss of three quick wickets meant the visitors had to settle for a draw.

Warrington’s fourths stormed to a nine-wicket win at Urmston thanks to youngster Rishav Manta’s five-wicket haul.

Urmston were making steady progress until the 15-year-old spinner was introduced to the attack to take 5 for 42.

Manta was well supported by Mans Naseem, 1 for 4, Tom Fagan Hall, 1 for 23, Pete Rydzkowski, 1 for 29, and Arshan Dadrualla, 1 for 39.

Matt Jackson made 27 in reply, before 16-year-old Aaron Chaderton cut loose to score an unbeaten maiden century to leave Warrington on 165 for 1.
