Promotion hopefuls pushed hard by guests Weaverham in close encounter

ANOTHER six wickets for seamer Kyle Adams propelled Warrington to a narrow win against Weaverham on Saturday in the Vivio Cheshire County League’s Division Two.

Victory, secured in fast-fading light at Walton Lea, takes them to third place in the standings.

Adams made light work of the away team’s top order, returning figurs of six for 75 to ensure all of the Russets’ wickets to fall in their total of 149 for 6 were his.

After a delay caused by heavy rain, the hosts had 27 overs to reach their target.

They got off to a dream start too as skipper Richard Heaney, 50, shared in an opening stand worth 72 with partner Chris Kirby, 42.

Paul Farrar, 15, and Sam Baxter, 14, played an important role as Warrington scraped home at 150 for 7 despite the best efforts of Weaverham’s Antiguan import Wilden Cornwall who took four for 54.

Warrington seconds returned from Brooklands with only seven points after rain washed out their match.

The visitors posted a total of 130 thanks to Ian Sleigh, 22, Ryan Swart, 22, and Mal Agar, 20.

It was a similar story for the club’s third team, whose head-to-head with Urmston was abandoned due to poor light.

Urmston reached 167 for 8 as Tex Balmer, 3 for 64, Billy Gilbert, 2 for 20 and Wes Charlton, 2 for 22, shared the wickets.

Despite a good start from Tom Corroboy, 35, and Sam Peninngton, 32, Warrington’s chase was cut short by the dark.

The fourths made short work of their Urmston counteparts, skittling them for just 42 thanks to Peter Rydzowski, 3 for 14, Aabas Sharma, 2 for 4, Tim Palmer, 2 for 9 and Arshan Dadrualla, 2 for 11.

Dave Selvan, 27, wasted no time helping Warrington reach their target with eight wickets spare.
