GLAZEBURY moved a step closer to safety in Cheshire Alliance Division One despite seeing their game with struggling Ellesmere Port abandoned at the halfway stage.

In what was destined to be a low-scoring contest, the home side totalled 114 after rain had delayed the start of the match.

As Ellesmere Port were about to start their reply, the heavens opened to prevent further play, leaving both teams to take home seven points.

Glazebury are now 32 points clear of relegation with four games left, starting with a trip to runaway leaders Haslington this Saturday.

Glazebury’s seconds were left similarly frustrated in their game at Audlem in Division Four.

With a single point between them at the start of play, Audlem were dismissed for 160 in 45 overs.

A rain delay left Glazebury with 29 overs to reach their target, and they quickly reached 38 for 1 before the players were forced off a final time by the weather.

Glazebury host their Ellesmere Port counterparts this weekend.
