APPLETON recorded a hard-fought win over Oakmere to stay second in Cheshire Women’s League’s top tier.

Nat Lyons, 26, held the Warrington team’s innings together, with support from Sami Fowler and Debbie Kingston, to set their opponents a target of 106 to win.

Jess Lewis removed county star Dawn Prestidge to get Appleton into the game, and Long continued her fine season with three wickets as Judith Barnes picked up three catches behind the stumps.
