GLAZEBURY’S mid-season revival continued with their third win in four matches away to fellow relegation candidates Saughall in Division One of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance.

The result moved the Hurst Lane side out of the bottom four for the first time in two months ahead of their home clash with bottom-of-the-table Rylands this Saturday.

Saughall elected to bat first and were dismissed for 157.

Tom Wilkinson, 5 for 38, and Jon Gibbons, 3 for 39, starred in a good all-round performance.

A fine opening stand of 78 then consolidated the visitors’ position, with an excellent 63 from Dean Lord providing the backbone of the run chase.

Jack Warhurst, 27, also made crucial runs, with solid efforts from Dave Mason and Wilkinson helping ensure Glazebury reached 159 for 5 in 36 overs to seal another maximum 25 points on a ground where they were denied the Division Two title on the last day of the 2010 season.

Glazebury’s second XI also claimed 25 points from an easy victory over struggling Wilmslow in Division Four at Hurst Lane.

Batting first, the hosts rattled up 192 for 8 declared in 41 overs.

Openers Sean Caine, 43, and Ian Black, 36, laid the platform at the top of the card, then Julian May and Dave Warhurst kept the board ticking over in the middle, before Mark Rowan, 26 not out, provided some late fireworks before tea.

After the interval it was plain sailing as Wilmslow were shot out for just 29.

Skipper Dave Nicholson, Black and Caine all shared the wickets as Glazebury moved up to fifth, having been in the relegation places just five weeks ago.

This weekend the seconds travel to face Mellor’s first Xl.
