AN incredible late rally from the Glazebury bowlers saw the Hurst Lane side snatch a dramatic victory from their home clash with Wilmslow in Division One of the Cheshire Cricket Alliance.

Defending a score of 101, Glazebury looked to be heading towards defeat as the visitors required only five more runs with three wickets remaining but a refusal to give up the cause reaped its rewards in the final analysis.

Batting first, Glazebury struggled for fluency with a partnership of 45 between Wayne Hargreaves, 14, and captain Jack Warhurst, 32, being the only stand of note.

From 78 for 4, Glazebury lost their way and were dismissed in the 35th over.

The response from the home attack was impressive, Wilmslow slipping to 58 for 7.

But a stand of 39 for the eighth wicket looked to have decided the game as the visitors got to within one big hit of victory.

But Chris Ayre, 3 for 39, and Jon Gibbons, 3 for 22, took it down to the wire at 99 for 9 before a fine catch under pressure from Andy Calvert gave Tom Wilkinson, 3 for 22, the crucial final wicket with the score on 100.

Glazebury, who earnd a crucial 25 points in their bid to beat the drop, travel on Saturday to face relegation rivals Saughall.

They are 10 points adroft of their weekend hosts with seven matches left.
