Warrington Anglers' Association: New member's pike on first cast

THERE were some good match results this week on our canal venues.

The best came from our Disabled and Over 60s match in which veteran George Barber followed up his win last week to put an impressive 10lbs 13ozs 0drs on the scales for another victory.

George had skimmers and roach on pole-fished bread and caster.

Dave Blease was runner up with 9-10-0 from a similar net of fish.

Again the fish were tightly shoaled in two clearly defined areas.

Warrington Red increased their overall lead in our popular WAA Winter League by another three points with only a couple of matches remaining in the series.

Cheshire Gold’s Ros Whiteman took the individual honours with a mixed net of 6-14-9 followed closely by teammate Craig Richie, who eerily put the sign of the devil on the scales with 6-6-6.

New member Rickie Jones tried a spot of pike fishing on the Bridgewater Canal at Grappenhall and was rewarded with a near double on his first cast.

His wobbled dead bait under a float tight to the near bank had only been retrieved 10 to 15 metres when the fish struck.

Bailiff Steve Kemble tackled Grey Mist last week and caught five carp, including one of the new fish - a mirror of 20-3-0 that had lost 5ozs since being stocked - followed by a three-fish catch two days later which included a 22lb mirror that had put on 1lb since being released in January 2012.

He has been awarded our Fish of the Month prize of more than £100 of Baitech products as well as a Korda carp care kit.

I hate that a minority think it is fine to leave rubbish for decent members to pick up in their wake. We have a cracking team of volunteers working hard to improve Grey Mist and this sort of behaviour is an outright insult to their efforts.

I welcome catch reports on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

Our headquarters, 52 Parker Street, is open 7pm to 9pm every Friday for subscriptions, new memberships, night permits or any queries.
