THERE are reports that sport on the small lake at Sandiway has picked up a pace.

Overnight Thursday/Friday, eight carp were landed to 25lbs plus and one angler targeting bream and tench had caught seven bream and 11 tench and he was booked on for a further 24 hours.

Evidently, he was fishing maggots and corn in a big feeder and was spodding out extra feed.

The large lake is slower, with only three known carp out this week to 30lbs, but Andrew Hewson reports six tench from six to 9lbs taken on pineapple pop-ups.

Again on the small lake, Friday/Saturday night produced seven carp to 25lbs, with two 30lbs plus.

Now the disappointing news that, on a Saturday check by our bailiffs, five members cards were seized when they were found in possession of alcohol.

Chris Connell reports starting his session on Mowpin by first rescuing a fledgling that had become entangled in undergrowth and waited until it was collected by its mother.

Finally choosing his peg, he set up a pole and fed corn, hemp, and meat in the margin with maggots at 12 metres.

His first fish was a crucian followed by a further 26, eight roach, and all was going well as the chub started to feed but everything was cut short when a passing dog walker allowed the animal to jump on and break Chris’s number seven section. Ouch!

With the carp busy spawning in the reeds at Ackers Pit, regular column contributor Mike Pritchard found bites hard to come by, ending his session with three rudd and seven roach topped by a 4lbs tench. At least you got out fishing, Mike!

This week, our disabled and over 60s match was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Moore Village, where weights were nothing to write home about.

George Hollis won with 3lbs 3ozs 10drs, which included a bonus 2.5lbs bream. Geoff Brooks took the runner-up spot with 2-6-4 made up of skimmers and roach.

Your catch reports are always welcome but more importantly, it is nice to let fellow members know how waters are fishing.
