AFTER watching silent bite alarms for seven hours on Grey Mist Mere earlier in the week, Neil Plunkett decided to try Woodshaw Reservoir on Saturday.

There was a bitter easterly wind, so he set up with comfort in mind.

However after another 90 minutes without success he switched to another swim.

A change of fortune followed, and after the first couple of catches he soon forgot the cold.

His final tally included 14 crucians - all more than 2lbs - and a perch of 2lbs-plus along with about a dozen roach.

All fish came to a groundbait feeder and single maggot on size 20 hook.

This week our disabled and over 60s match on Woodshaw Reservoir was fished in snow and freezing conditions.

Winner John Mills put 3-14-0 on the scales made up of a bream, a crucian and a few small roach.

Organiser Jimmy Byrne was second with 3-4-0.

The fishery management team have planned a work party on The Mount at Buckley on Sunday.

They meet on the car park at 9am, and finish at midday.

Tasks vary from trimming back willow 'whips' to serious tree removal!

Ask for Derek Cowell upon arrival.

One of our members, Harold Yates, passed away last month just weeks short of his 90th birthday.

His funeral takes place on April 17 at Warrington Parish Church, from 10am.

If any members who knew him want to attend afterwards for a drink, then let me know - either by calling or by sending an email - to gauge numbers.

If any member wants a say on the Coarse Fish Close Season on Rivers, predation, or any other issues they can attend the Angling Trust's North West Fisheries Forum where they are asking for anglers' ideas and opinions.

It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at Croft Memorial Hall, 5 Mustard Lane, Croft, Warrington WA3 7BQ, from 7pm.

Admission is free, and refreshments are available.

Keep sending me your catch reports so I can let fellow members know how waters are fishing.
