NEIL Plunkett managed a nice tench of around 6½lbs from a session on Grey Mist last week and was broken off by a couple of bigger fish.

On Wednesday, he decided to give Rixton a go as the ‘mini Beast from the East’ had subsided.

It was very frosty so he didn’t hold out too much hope for a red-letter day, but undeterred Neil fished for a while on the car-park side of the lake but with no action set off on a trek to the far side despite the muddy conditions.

It turned out to be a good move as he ended his session with three decent bream all over 3lbs and two nice tench around the 4-5lbs mark.

To quote Neil, “A long, arduous day but well worth it.”

Note this one….if any member is interested in having their say on the Coarse Fish Close Season on Rivers, predation, or any other priorities, then you should attend the Angling Trust North West Fisheries Forum where they are asking for anglers ideas and opinions.

It is on Wednesday, April 18, at Croft Memorial Hall, 5 Mustard Lane Croft, Warrington WA3 7BQ.

It is free to attend with tea & coffee served from 6.40pm and meeting begins at 7pm. This is your chance to make your voice heard.

Thankfully, there was an improvement in weights on Monday at our disabled and over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal that was fished at Delph Lane, Keckwick.

Winner Jimmy Byrne caught 50 small roach for a weight of 2lbs 5ozs 8drs, followed in second place by Ron Durr with 1-9-12. Pole tactics with bread, punch or pinkie was the winning method.

Catches though still fall short of a decade or so past before increased numbers of cormorants homed in on our fish stocks.

Thanks to those members who attended our AGM on Thursday, also to the Dalton who supplied the buffet and especially to Grappenhall Ex-Serviceman’s Club for the use once again of their excellent facilities.

Don’t forget to send me your catch reports which are always welcome, but more so it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing.

Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a call on 01928 716238.

WAA headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7pm and 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
