CAN any members throw light on the pike situation on Budworth Mere?

Tony Williams and his friend went there on Saturday for a piking session.

There was no action in seven hours on four rods, using methods found to be very productive on other waters.

Catch reports on the usually productive Woodshaw Reservoir show sport is up one day and down the next.

Let’s see what happens on Monday when our disabled and over 60s competitors try their luck on the venue.

The gate to C & D Pools is at present locked by the farmer because he has cattle on the field. Nobody would want their car paintwork licked by them because it is unbelievable the damage they can cause.

This week’s disabled and over 60s match was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Pickerings Bridge.

Jimmy Byrne was the winner for the second week in succession with 3lbs 2ozs 6drs made up of small roach and perch.

Ray Boden achieved another Mersey win last Tuesday with 8-4-0 of roach and perch taken on pole and maggot. Dave Brooks wasn’t too far behind using the same method.

Ray then doubled the weight of the next angler in our Saturday Mersey Series. He fished his usual pole and maggot tactics for a catch of three perch, one dace, and the rest roach for a weight of 11-5-0.

Alan Morris, in second place, fished a groundbait feeder and maggot for 5-1-0.

Sunday’s match saw Ray’s protégé Ade Green take his fourth Mersey win this season from an unfavoured peg.

He fished bolo and maggot for a weight of 9-4-0 of roach and perch.

Jimmy Byrne included a bonus 4lb bream in his runner-up catch.
