LUCKY Andrew Beddeson had Wide Hole all to himself on Good Friday, when he spent an enjoyable four hours catching plenty of roach and perch.

He also landed three bream, weighing around 2.5 to 3lbs, as a bonus.

All were caught fishing caster over pellet.

Although happy with the sport on this association-owned fishery, he was less pleased about rubbish left by non-members.

We are looking for volunteers to help clear it up, so if any members fancy getting involved please send me an email.

Regular contributor Eric J Smith took time off work before Easter, during which he managed to fit in three sessions on Cicely Mill Pool and as many at Grey Mist Mere.

Apart from one day at the latter, sport was on the slow side.

He reckons Cicely, his favourite water, hasn’t come to life yet.

Nevertheless he caught three hybrids on his first session, four tench – all around 3lbs – on the second and three crucians the next day.

On his first visit to Grey Mist, Eric sat for nine hours without a bite before netting six tench in as many casts.

The best three weighed 7-8-0, 7-10-0, and 8-1-0 respectively – all better than his previous best.

The next day produced one tench, again weighing more than seven pounds at 7-11-0, while Thursday drew a blank.

Eric fished a maggot feeder with red maggots on the Mist, and his usual method feeder – with hemp sprayed over the top – on Cicely.

It’s really encouraging to see more adults are now taking youngsters for a free taster session at our designated fisheries: Woodshaw Reservoir, Ackers Pit, Bridgewater Canal and Offa’s Dyke.

Any member can take a child, aged 12 or below, on a one-to-one basis for free.

Please note there is a working party at Sandiway Lakes this weekend.

Big Sandiway only is closed from 10am on Saturday until 4pm the next day.

Only volunteers that put themselves forward to help can fish there on Saturday night.

Our association headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open for two hours every Friday, from 7pm, for memberships, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any other queries.

Keep sending your catch reports by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk, or call me on 01928 716238.
