MIKE Pritchard enjoyed a session at Statham Pool on Saturday despite the rising water level that came up five inches while he was fishing.

He ended up with more than 40 roach, skimmers, rudd, and hybrids plus a bonus bream around 3½lbs taken on caster in the last hour.

Mike witnessed a member on the opposite bank net at least seven carp, with one looking to be a good double.

Our bailiff reported dropping water levels on Tuesday night so it looks promising for the weekend.

A few members have been catching the silver fish we stocked recently at our Offa’s Dyke Fisheries. Don’t forget any senior member can take a youngster aged 12 or under to try a spot of fishing for free at this venue. The only condition being that it must be on a one-to-one basis. Offa’s is an ideal place to introduce potential anglers of the future to our sport.

A reminder to those members who have promised me their catch pictures for our display stand at the Northern Angling Show on April 1 and 2. I need them ASAP and would be very grateful.

A few members have been caught by Environment Agency bailiffs and fined for fishing without a national licence. It is a rule of our club that all members must have one as the money goes towards maintaining, improving, and developing fisheries.

Our disabled and over 60s match was held on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Farm Road on Monday in the hope that they could find a few fish following some hard matches over past weeks.

Jimmy Byrne won with 5lbs 0ozs 6drs, having a pound to spare over John Dagnall in second place. Both fished the pole, starting off on punched bread followed by pinkie and caster. John had been feeding caster across and went over in the last half hour to net four plump roach. All anglers except one weighed in over a couple of pounds.

Regular volunteers turned out on Sunday to our Mount Fishery. They cleared undergrowth, overhanging trees and branches to open up pegs and create new ones All our volunteers who work selflessly for the benefit of all members are solid gold.
