THE horrendous weather at Easter did not put a stop to work at Warrington Anglers' Association fisheries.

A hardy band of volunteers were on duty at Offa’s Dyke, where they checked on the otter-proof fencing after a small carp – weighing in at around six pounds – was found dead and half-eaten.

Mink could be the culprit so our guys, in conjunction with the farmer, are looking at surveillance equipment.

Overhanging trees were also trimmed on the island at pool two to improve a number of pegs.

At Statham Pool, pathways were reinstated and bushes pruned to improve access for anglers and to give the fishery a makeover.

Our replacement truck, which has a tipper back, certainly came in handy when transporting the stone and other materials.

If you fancy getting involved in one of our working parties, then drop into our headquarters on a Friday evening and talk to a committee member.

They’d be happy to hear from you.

Alternatively, why not join our Warrington Anglers Volunteers group on Facebook?

Once there, you will meet like-minded members and I guarantee you’ll enjoy being part of it.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their free time over the holiday period.

A number of our recently-stocked carp are giving sport at Rixton Clay Pits thanks to those netting team members and volunteers that helped with their introduction.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, only a fraction of the fish intended for Phoenix Park were stocked.

However I understand they are showing.

To finish, a reminder.

All rivers are closed for coarse fish angling until the new season starts on Thursday, June 16.

Any sightings of individuals doing so before then should be reported directly to the Environment Agency on 0800 807060.

It’s a free, from landlines, and open 24 hours a day.

Our headquarters at Parker Street are open every Friday, from 7pm, for memberships, subscription, night-permit renewals and any other queries.

Keep sending catch reports by email to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk, or call me on 01928 716238.

News has been scarce this week, so let me know what you’ve been up to.

Fixtures: Monday, disabled and over 60s: draw 10am, Cliff Lane.
