TIM Slough and his son, Sam, recently enjoyed an afternoon session at Rixton Claypits where they shared a catch of 15 bream – between 1 and 3lbs – and a solitary tench of 3.5lbs.

He reports the fish in excellent condition, with the bream showing spawning tubercles.

Young Sam, 11, fished a groundbait feeder and mini tutti frutti boilies on the hook while his dad caught his fish on a pellet feeder.

Ste Wharton fished at Sandiway last week with a friend, Mick Cook, spending the first 24 hours on the big lake where he caught his first carp from this notoriously difficult water; a mirror of 18lbs.

When they switched to he smaller fishery next door, there was an upsurge in sport with six carp to 19lbs, eight tench, and two bream.

Poor Mick went home with a sore neck, for the best he could manage was to watch his mate catch all the fish.

Mike Peers was more than happy with his trip on Saturday to The Mount, when he ended his session with easily the best fish of the day; a common that weighed 20-12-0, witnessed by bailiff Brian Jones.

Rhys Sweeney also fished there last week, catching some nice roach and perch along with four tench to 4lbs and a mirror carp around the 7lb mark.

And Neil Plunkett enjoyed a good day’s sport at The Mount on Thursday, catching 10 carp, two tench and a bream.

Our disabled and over 60s match was fished at Cross Cuts, in Preston, this week and shortly after the ‘all-in’ had been shouted maintenance guys arrived to cut the grass.

Lesser anglers would have packed up, but these veterans are made of sterner stuff and carried on regardless.

Jeff Clare won the match with a net of small skimmers, followed by Alan Brown.

Although weights were down, there were roach caught in the 5-7oz bracket.
