NEW member Alan Rogerson visited Forster’s Pools for the first time on Friday, fishing the larger lake to the right-hand side of the entry gate.

He was pleasantly surprised when his first cast produced a lively mirror carp of around 7lbs, which took his waggler-fished single-maggot bait.

Alan soon followed this with three chub and a string of roach, topped off with a last cast carp of about 8lbs.

He loose-fed maggots and set up with a small waggler and size-20 hook to 3lbs hook-length.

Happy days, but if sessions were always that easy there would be no challenge which is a major attraction of our sport.

Sandiway Small Lake is still producing good sport with tench, but very little is being reported from the large lake despite its ongoing popularity with members.

Either these members simply love the solitude and the challenge of a ‘hard water’, or they are keeping catches to themselves which is counter-productive as reports play a part in in future stocking of fisheries.

Our disabled and over 60s Bank Holiday match, fished at Acton Grange Bridge, saw a small improvement in weights.

Alan Brown led the field with 3-12-4 of roach and skimmers taken on pole and bread punch.

Not far behind, fishing the same method, was veteran angler and ‘bread specialist’ George Barber with 3-1-8.

Jimmy Byrne netted 2-2-10 to take third place.

There will be some inconvenience on some pegs to anglers at Cicily Mill Pool for the next week or so while the far pegs on the right bank are refurbished.

Please note the walkway to a peg on the left-hand side of the car park was dismantled to remove any access for members.

Keep an eye out for set lines, as a few have been recently discovered.

If found, leave in situ, but report the location and find immediately to the secretary.

E-mail catch reports to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.

Our headquarters at 52 Parker Street are open every Friday, from 7pm, for subscriptions, new memberships, night permits and any queries.
