WORTHINGTON Lakes are producing some good bream catches and Michael Veall had 29 last week between 2lbs and 4lbs.

This week, probably due to the influx of cold water into Arley, he had some decent roach while his friend John Heaton had a few bream with the best weighed at 3lbs 2ozs 0drs.

Our local bailiff team also report that Woodshaw reservoir is still worth a visit, but I must warn you the wind there is absolutely freezing so wrap up warm and then put on an extra layer for good measure.

Sport at Grey Mist Mere is poor at present, however member Ian Robinson had three on his first visit with the best at 17lbs.

Another angler had two, including a mirror of 18lbs, but the rest I am afraid suffered the indignity of a blank.

A few small jack-pike are coming out to lures.

Our Warrington Local Winter League on the Macclesfield Canal produced some decent weights.

Steve Preece took the individual crown with 7-14-4 on mainly roach, closely followed by Steve Clegg on 7-1-8, who included skimmers in his net.

Quite a few decent perch on most sections helped to make up weights.

Cheshire Gold took the team honours and are now leading the league on 35 points, followed by Saints on 30, but it is still early days with seven matches to go.

Pete Critchley romped home in our Disabled and Over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal at Stanny Lunt Bridge, with 6-9-4 of bream, skimmers, and a few small perch seeing him over 3lbs spare over runner-up Trev Bainbridge on 3-9-0.

The rest of the field struggled along with match organiser John Dagnall, who did not even make 2oz.

Still, the banter and camaraderie on these matches makes it all worthwhile, or so I am told.

Please note that due to a combination of illness and holidays our office will remain closed on Friday, November 9.
