Woolston Rovers A 58 Wigan Bulldogs 0

WOOLSTON Rovers A continued their great start to the season with an impressive victory over Wigan Bulldogs in the North West Men's League Division Three on Saturday.

Full-back Glyn Roberts contributed 26 points with his two first-half tries and nine conversions from 10 attempts.

Matt Davy and Tom Woodward also crossed to help Rovers to a 22-0 lead at the break.

Woodward's second try and further efforts from man-of-the-match Matt Clarke, Oly Parr, Callum Moore, Adam Files and Danny Griffiths wrapped up the scoring.

Coach Andy Penny said: β€œIt was a thoroughly professional display from the lads and they got the rewards for the effort that they put in.

"We were not perfect by any means but we stuck to our gameplan and that helped us to display some expansive rugby and score some fantastic tries.

"No matter who you are playing against it is always pleasing to keep the opposition scoreless – you are not going to lose any games if you do that.

"The boys got on top early on and never took their foot off the pedal.

"I am delighted with the way that the team are playing as a whole and the team spirit we have is showing in the results. We will continue to work hard and continue our winning run for as long as possible.”

Rovers opened the scoring in the sixth minute when hooker Files raced 40 metres before finding centre Callum Moore and he sent prop Davy racing over on the left.

Thirteen minutes later stand-off Kieran Moore found full-back Roberts linking into the line to score between the posts.

Straight from the restart Rovers moved downfield and substitute Jack Sherratt found Files who ran 20 metres before passing to second-row Woodward who scored at the left of the posts.

Right on the stroke of half time a high kick from Wigan Bulldogs was collected by Roberts on his own 20-metre line and he raced through the visitors' defence on an 80-metre run to score unchallenged between the posts.

Rovers moved further clear seven minutes into the second half when straight from a scrum the ball reached Woodward who broke through the Bulldogs defence to score under the posts.

On the hour a strong run from winger Lewis Melia was carried on by Kieran Moore and he found prop Clarke who powered his way over.

Almost immediately Rovers were over again when Roberts combined with centre Griffiths to put winger Parr over in the left corner.

Some slick handling saw the ball go through several pairs of hands before reaching centre Callum Moore who scored on the right.

Rovers brought up the half-century in fine style when Files broke through the line to score at the right of the posts.

A lovely ball from Callum Moore put Griffiths through a gap and he raced over for the final try.
