Woolston Rovers 66 Stanley Rangers 16

AFTER a disappointing defeat to Beverley last time out, Woolston Rovers got back on the winning trail in fine style.

They dismantled Stanley Rangers with a clinical display at Sadore Construction Field, with eight of their 12 tries coming after the break.

Conner Muir and Dan Fearnley crossed to get them off to a flyer, with Alex Dunne and Jack Sherratt also scoring to give them a comfortable half-time lead.

Muir scored twice more to complete his treble after the break, while full-back Luke Walker notched a hat-trick of his own with a trio of second-half efforts.

Dunne grabbed a second, with Theo Holt and Will Chadwick also crossing and Lewis Hoarty kicking nine conversions.

“After the disappointment of last week the lads wanted to put in a big performance and they certainly did that,” Rovers assistant coach Mal Holt said.

“Our pack dominated the opposition from the first whistle and that laid the platform for our backs to run riot.

“It was a great win for us and that will hopefully give us confidence going into our next game.”

Langworthy Reds 16 Woolston Rovers A 18

WOOLSTON Rovers A kept up their 100 per cent record in NWML Division Three with a narrow, hard-fought win at Langworthy.

Matt Davy and Kieran Jones were try-scorers before the break for the visitors, for whom under 18s coach John Morris took charge in the absence of regular leader Andy Penny.

Adam Files extended the lead to 18-10 after the break through Harry Files’ try and they hung on for victory despite a late fightback from the hosts.

“That was a really tough game, but the lads showed great character to come away with the win,” Morris said.

“We were not able to play our usual free flowing rugby, but we more than made up for that with sheer determination and togetherness to grind out a very important victory.”
