CROSFIELDS Masters came out on top of a tournament staged by Latchford Albion that looks set to become an annual event.

The men from Hood Lane defeated the hosts in the decider at the Asics Victoria Park Stadium courtesy of a try from Joe Kohe-Love in golden-point extra time.

Kohe-Love is the son of former Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Bradford Bulls, Widnes Vikings and Leigh Centurions centre Toa, who as a member of the winning team also showed he has lost none of the magic touches that made him a crowd favourite during his professional career.

More than 100 players participated in the 10-team event, ranging from youth to masters, both male and female, raising more than £1,200 in the process to assist in the recovery of former Latchford junior Alex Green, who was injured while abroad.

Albion chairman Mike Byron said: “My thanks go to everyone who made the effort to make this event such a success.

"For a first year to raise the amount we did shows again how the rugby league community come together in times of need.

"It was great to see so many players of all different abilities taking to the field and we are looking forward to making this an annual fixture within the local rugby league calendar."
