VICTORY over Dewsbury Moor Maroons on Saturday will be “mission accomplished” for Woolston Rovers’ season, head coach John Fieldhouse says.

Following their dramatic 24-20 semi-final victory at Eastmoor Dragons, Rovers will cross the Pennines once again for the National Conference League Division Three play-off final.

The winners will seal a place in Division Two for the 2018 season, something Fieldhouse says has been their target all season.

Rovers fell at this stage last year, losing to Drighlington, but the head coach says the squad is in “the best shape it has been in for three years.”

He says finally getting out of Division Three this season would be “fitting” given their recent near misses.

“We get a chance to fulfil our goal at the beginning of the year,” he said.

“We set out to win promotion and if we can overcome Dewsbury Moor then it will be mission accomplished.

“We are fully aware of the task ahead of us, they are in fine form, but we will go into the game full of confidence after our win at Eastmoor.

“The quality in the squad is the best it has been in the three years I have been back so it would be fitting if we could get out of this division this time.”

It has been a silverware-laden season at Monks Sports Club, with the club’s A side winning all four trophies available to them in 2017.

Fieldhouse says victory for his side on Saturday would cap “a phenomenal year” for the Green and Golds.

“The feel-good factor at the club, with the way that everybody has pulled together in the same direction, has been superb,” he said.

“The work that Andy Penny and Steve Moore have done with the NWML side to get them to complete the ‘Grand Slam’ and Johnny Morris with the under 18s has been invaluable.

“This has been a phenomenal year so far and if we can they cap it all off on Saturday, it would be unbelievable for all involved.”

The game kicks off at 2.30pm on Saturday.
