WOOLSTON Rovers A star Patryk Mazur has picked up a top RFL award for one of his side’s most dramatic moments of the year.

Mazur’s winning try in golden-point extra time of their NWML Shield Final win over Clock Face Miners A has won the Trojan Workwear Community Game Try of the Year award.

Mazur's acrobatic effort which won him the award

He received his award at a dinner held at Old Trafford prior to Saturday’s Super League Grand Final, with Rovers receiving a cheque for £2,000.

“It is a really great honour to have been presented with this award at such a great venue,” Mazur said.

“I would like to make a special mention to Billy Maunder as without his awareness, the try would not have been possible.

“Kieran Moore started the move from dummy half and found Billy who then sent Olly Hands away down the wing.

“When the ball went back to Billy, he noticed me running out wide. His kick was perfectly timed and I was able to collect and score.

“It has been a fantastic season and this just adds to it.”

The award is yet another highlight of a memorable season for Mazur and his Rovers A teammates after they completed a ‘Grand Slam’ of trophies, winning all four tournaments they entered in 2017.

“It has been a great year for all involved with the ‘A’ team and to then find out that Patryk’s try had beaten some other top quality tries to pick up this prestigious award is really special,” Rovers public relations officer Dave Whalley said.

“The execution for the try in the circumstances, with it being golden-point extra time, made it all the more remarkable and thankfully for Patryk and the club, it was captured on video.”
