East Leeds 48 Crosfields 14

A YOUNG Crosfields side succumbed to a more experienced East Leeds outfit as they fell short of recording back-to-back wins.

Mark Brennan’s side opened the scoring when strong runs by Ian Boden and Lewis Bani put them in a good position for Brad Stanway to send Mitch McJay over.

Stanway added the conversion, but Soap struggled to control the kick off and took full advantage, scoring three tries to rack up an 18-6 lead.

In an unusual turn of events, Nathan Taylor was knocked out by a stray elbow which the touch judge reported to the referee.

However, Crosfields were penalised and Dave Boden was sent from the field for questioning the decision.

East Leeds again took advantage, scoring once more before the break for a 22-6 half-time lead.

The hosts continued to exert pressure after the interval and took the score to 40-6 before good work from John Whittaker and Jordan Thomason put the visitors on the front foot, leading to Ian Boden crashing over on the right.

Quick hands then saw Rob Bonehill power his way over the line for Soap. Stanway converted, but East Leeds scored twice more late on to add gloss to the scoreline.

Crosfields, now eighth in National Conference League Division Two, must wait three weeks for their next fixture, which is at home to Askam on Saturday, September 2.
