Salford City Roosters 26 Crosfields 34

MARK Brennan hailed "a massive effort" by his Crosfields side as they fought back to end a seven-match winless run.

Despite travelling to Salford City Roosters without seven first-team regulars, including skipper Jack Reid, Soap ran in 18 unanswered points to turn the game around after the hosts had led 26-16 in the second half.

Ian Boden, Mitch McJay, Alex Clutterbuck, Dave Boden, Rob Bonehill and Lewis Bani crossed for the visitors, with Nathan Taylor adding five conversions.

"We had seven regulars missing, so it was a massive effort from the lads who stepped up," Brennan said.

"Phil Brazendale did 70 minutes at prop for us, which was a real captain's performance.

"Young Mitch McJay stepped up at 13 for us this week and Danny Lee at 9 seems to be settling into the first team well.

"We have not been far off this season, drawing two games and three of our losses have only been by two points.

"We are a good side who need to believe in ourselves more."

After Mike Burr had put Salford ahead, quick hands from John Whittaker and Chris Hull sent Clutterbuck through a gap and Ian Boden supported for a walk-in.

Burr put Salford 10-4 ahead, but Brazendale sent McJay over for a debut try to level the scores.

Whittaker's delayed pass sent Clutterbuck through and he dummied the full-back to score, but Salford scored a try either side of that to lead 20-16 at the break.

Joe Connor scored to give the hosts a 10-point lead in the second half, but that was when Soap took over.

Whittaker and Sam Hickey combined to send Dave Boden over, with Taylor's conversion reducing the deficit to four points.

Bonehill then crossed from Whittaker's chip to take Soap into the lead before Bani crashed over with the last play of the game to earn Soap a memorable win.

Brennan's side visit East Leeds on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
