West Bank 28 Latchford Albion 18

DESPITE playing their part in an absorbing North West Men's League Premier Division contest, Latchford Albion returned from their short trip to West Bank empty-handed.

They struck first through prop Craig Fleming, who showed good strength to hold off two defenders and crash over, with George Briggs adding the conversion.

The Widnes-based hosts equalised, but Lewis Johnson finished off Danny Brown's break to give Albion the lead again.

West Bank ensured the score was 12-12 at half time before scoring early in the second half to take the lead for the first time.

The hosts scored next to open up a two-score lead, but Damian Lyon's converted effort for Albion reduced the arrears to six points.

Latchford pressurised their hosts in an effort to find another try, but an interception score put gloss on the scoreline for West Bank.

"The game was won on small margins and we will learn from this," coach Lee Smith said.

"Apart from a ten-minute spell either side of half time where we conceded two tries the game was even.

"West Bank said it was their toughest game of the season, so we take the positives and learn from the negatives."

Lee Smith's side now travel to Ashton Bears on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm, and a win will all but secure their place in the Premier Division.
