Shevington Sharks 10 Latchford Albion 22

LEE Smith says Latchford Albion are "starting to prove their worth" after returning to winning ways at Shevington Sharks.

Skipper Danny Brown, Reece Forrest, Owen Nugent and Dave Levenson crossed for Albion in a hard-fought victory as they rebounded from an 82-6 loss at Thatto Heath Crusaders A in their previous game.

George Briggs also added three conversions for Smith's side and the head coach says the squad "restored some pride" with their victory.

"Our squad is starting to prove it's worth," he said.

"After the heavy defeat we had at Thatto, it was important we restored some pride and I think we went well beyond that.

"There were players missing, but we have faith in whoever pulls on the jersey and that is testament to the commitment they are showing."

Brown dummied his way over for the game's opening points after 25 minutes, but the hosts ensured the scores were level at 6-6 at the interval.

Shevington took the lead after the break, but winger Forrest took advantage of an error to score his first try for the club, with Briggs' extras nudging Albion ahead.

After an injury to a home player delayed the game for 40 minutes, Nugent gathered a kick and raced home from 60 yards to open up an eight-point lead.

As the home defence tired, Levenson crossed out wide to put the seal on an impressive Latchford victory.

Albion's next game comes on Saturday, August 5, when they travel to West Bank Bears.

The club's Alliance side are in action on Saturday, however, as they visit Garswood Stags, kick off 2.30pm.
