Wigan St Judes 30 Crosfields 30

FOR the second consecutive match Crosfields scored in injury time to secure a point in a fantastic advert for amateur rugby league.

And again Jack Reid was at the heart of things in the closing stages.

The scrum half slotted an injury-time drop goal to end a three-match losing streak with a point against Millom on July 1 and then on Saturday his delicate chip led to Nathan Taylor crossing from halfway for another share of spoils.

Wigan St Judes took a 6-0 lead wit the help of a 40/20 after two minutes but Soap hit back when John Whittaker and Chris Burgess combined to send Danny Lee over in the corner.

Five minutes later Crosfields took the lead when a set play confused the visitors and allowed Whittaker to walk over unopposed, with man-of-the-match Reid converting.

After a period of St Judes pressure Taylor picked up a loose ball on his own 10-metre line and rounded the first defender before outpacing the chasers for his first long-range try of the afternoon and a 14-6 advantage.

St Judes added a disputed converted try but Crosfields restored their eight-point lead just before the break when the ball was moved wide for Burgess to brush off his opposite number to score, with Reid converting.

Tom Millington paid the price for not backing himself on a scoring opportunity early in the second period when St Judes went 100 metres on a kick return to cut the gap to two points.

Although Joe Moore went to the sin bin Soap reacted well when a set play led to Millington putting Whittaker over and Reid converted.

Back came St Judes with two tries from kicks to lead 30-26 with three minutes remaining.

But Reid chipped through, Moore collected and turned the defending winger inside and out before feeding Taylor to race home but the conversion was missed.
