Rylands Sharks 36 Dewsbury Celtic 44

RYLANDS’ poor form continued as they succumbed to struggling Dewsbury Celtic in a high-scoring game on Saturday.

After falling behind in the first minute, Sharks player-coach Matt Wilson crossed to close the gap but Dewsbury scored four more tries to open up a solid lead.

Tyler Whittaker’s well-taken try on the stroke of half time, plus Chris Forster’s conversion, kept the hosts just about in touch at 24-10.

After the break, two tries in three minutes from Brad McAlpine, with Forster converting one of them, cut the gap to just four points.

A try and a penalty for the visitors kept them at arm’s length, but Nick Braide’s converted effort brought the lead back to four points with 20 minutes left.

The sides swapped tries, with Aaron Holliday going over for Rylands, as the game remained tense, but Dewsbury crossed again to seal their victory despite James Jones’ score just before full time.

Sharks travel to Stanley Rangers on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Rylands: Luke Walker; Aaron Holliday, Lucas Barnes, Tyler Whittaker, Pete Price; Chris Forster, Jack Morgan; Ashley Losh, Elliot Best, Brad McAlpine, Kane Doherty, Nick Braide, Eddie Masterman. Subs: James Jones, Matt Wilson, Sean Boyle, Rob Campbell.
