Waterhead Warriors 16 Woolston Rovers 54

JOHN Fieldhouse says his Woolston Rovers players "rose to the challenge" during their 10-try victory over Waterhead Warriors on Saturday.

Two tries and three goals from Chris Twigg helped Rovers on their way as nine different players notched tries, with Billy Maunder, Sean Conway and Will Ridge crossing before the break.

Dan Fearnley, Adam Files, Danny Griffiths, Connor Muir and Tom Woodward also scored in the emphatic victory, with full-back Glyn Roberts chipping in with four conversions.

"I was very happy that the players rose to the challenge of what I had said was a ‘must win’ game," Fieldhouse said.

"We struggled in the opening quarter to complete our sets but that was probably due to another seven personnel changes from last week.

"We also created many more opportunities in what was a dominant display. I told the boys to be patient and that it would come good."

After Waterhead opened the scoring through Jack Pemberton, Twigg got his first try in the right corner and Roberts' conversion gave Rovers a lead they would not relinquish.

Matt Clarke and Harry Files combined to put Maunder through to score between the posts before Twigg collected Roberts' high kick to touch down for a second time.

Conway finished off Maunder's break shortly before Ridge crossed between the posts to give Woolston a commanding lead at the break.

Carl Sneyd's try early in the second half gave Waterhead hope, but Fearnley reacted quickest to Maunder's kick to snuff out any hopes of a comeback.

Adam Files powered over before Terry Fitzgerald managed to score a third try for the hosts, but that was as good as it got for them.

After Griffiths had crossed in the right corner, Muir picked up a loose ball and danced through the defence to add his name to the scoresheet, with Twigg's conversion taking Rovers to the half-century mark.

Woodward completed the scoring a minute from time to round off a highly satisfying afternoon for Fieldhouse's side.
