Latchford Albion 28 Haydock 16

COACH Lee Smith says he "could not be prouder" of his Latchford Albion players as they maintained their excellent recent form.

Saturday's win over defending North West Men's League champions Haydock at Victoria Park was their fifth in six league outings.

"Over the last month, we have beaten a previously undefeated side in Thatto Heath and today we have defeated the current champions," Smith said.

"I couldn't be more prouder of my players and these results are just rewards for the effort and commitment they are showing on and off the field.

"We are on a great run of form and the challenge now is to improve week on week.

"If we do that, the results will continue to look after themselves."

Fraser Jones-Clarke barged over to give Albion the lead, but Haydock equalised shortly after before Adam Wadsworth's superb solo effort put the hosts ahead again.

Two quick tries after the break gave the visitors the advantage, but Andy Unsworth shrugged off three defenders to score out wide before George Briggs, who kicked four conversions, dummied his way over.

Damian Lyon broke through to put a seal on the victory for Latchford, who welcome Heysham Atoms to Victoria Park on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
