Eastmoor Dragons 32 Woolston Rovers 26

WOOLSTON Rovers’ four-game winning run was halted by Eastmoor on Saturday as head coach John Fieldhouse branded the loss “really frustrating”.

Glyn Roberts’ interception try gave Rovers an early lead, but Jason Roberts went over to level matters for the hosts.

Caine McVittie edged the Dragons ahead before Roberts dummied his way through to double his tally.

Michael Jedynak’s converted score gave Eastmoor a 16-10 lead at the break, but a nice handling move sent Wil Maudsley over in the corner to narrow the gap for Rovers.

However, the game turned on the dismissal of Rovers skipper Sean Conway and the sin-binning of teammate Lewis Hoarty, both for dissent.

Danny Johnson and Adrian Mulcahy added tries to give Eastmoor breathing space, but Rovers substitute Danny Griffiths scored to keep the game alive.

However, Luke Scott powered over to effectively end the game, making Griffiths’ second immaterial.

“That was a really frustrating game to lose, it was a massive disappointment after the run that we had been on,” Fieldhouse said.

“To get within six points in all that adversity was a great effort in the end but it is definitely two points dropped.

“To score five tries and still come out on the wrong side of the scoreline is very hard to take.”

Woolston Rovers A 36 Culcheth Eagles 20

WOOLSTON Rovers A earned local bragging rights on Saturday as they saw off neighbours Culcheth Eagles at Monks Sports Club.

Sam Purslow put the visitors ahead from dummy-half before Sam Cooper burst through poor tackling to give Culcheth an early 12-0 lead.

Rovers hit back through Tom Woodward, but Adam Rainford went over in the corner to regain the initiative for the visitors.

The hosts found their rhythm and tries from Kieran Jones and Adam Files brought the scores level at 16-16.

Jones put Woolston ahead for the first time before Alex Dunne finished Mike Ward’s pass to put them in control.

Ward got a try of his own shortly afterwards before Culcheth had James Wilde sent off for punching and Paul Martin yellow-carded for dissent.

The visitors kept coming and Cooper barged over for his second, but Rovers had the final say when Jones completed his hat-trick.
