Woolston Rovers 78 Stanley Rangers 4

“THE penny finally dropped” for Woolston Rovers in their 14-tru demolition of Stanley on Saturday, head coach John Fieldhouse said.

Lewis Hoarty, Connor Muir and Glyn Roberts all scored twice as 11 different players crossed the whitewash at Monks Sports Club.

Roberts also kicked 11 conversions in an utterly dominant Rovers display that delighted Fieldhouse.

“The players got their reward for a lot of hard work in training on our defensive and attacking structures. The penny seems to have finally dropped,” he said.

“Even though we scored fourteen tries the most pleasing aspect from my point of view was our defence.

“I want the team to play Rugby and score tries like we did but it is the defence that builds confidence and belief.”

Will Chadwick opened the scoring early for Rovers before Roberts put Hoarty over on the right.

Roberts and Hoarty were again involved as they were involved in a move to put Chris Twigg over before more slick handling saw Connor Muir cross.

Liam Grimmett got Stanley on the board as he forced his way over, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.

Chadwick’s short ball sent Sean Conway through a gap to score before Muir finished off Matt Clarke’s break to give Rovers a 42-4 half-time lead.

The game continued in the same vein after the interval, with Lewis Thorpe crossing on the right before substitute Harry Files scooted over from dummy-half shortly afterwards.

Roberts shot through the line to continue the procession just after the hour mark and Hoarty doubled his tally by finishing off more good handling.

Clarke and Ryan Brown got themselves on the scoresheet before Roberts’ second rounded off the scoring.

Rovers are not in action this weekend as they play their scheduled home game against Clock Face Miners on Wednesday, kick off 7.30pm, to avoid clashing with Super League’s Magic Weekend.

Blackpool Stanley 14 Woolston Rovers A 50

ALEX Dunne scored a hat-trick as Woolston Rovers A progressed to the last-eight of the NWML Shield on Saturday.

Billy Maunder and Adam Files both scored twice, with Jimmy Evans and Callum Moore both grabbing a try each. Liam Sullivan also weighed in with seven conversions.

Evans opened the scoring in the left corner before Files’ break was finished off by Maunder, who turned provider for the next try when his kick was touched down on the right by Moore.

Graham McNish and Henry Stelfox got the hosts moving, but Rovers regained the initiative when Files found Maunder, who doubled his tally in the left corner.

Four minutes after the break, Files got himself on the scoresheet before a Maunder interception was finished off by Dunne.

After a Blackpool handling error, Dunne kicked ahead twice before picking up to score his second, but Joe Connell crossed for a consolation try for the hosts.

Files doubled his tally just after the hour before Dunne rounded off the scoring from Maunder’s pass, bringing up the half-century in the process.
