WOOLSTON Rovers will need to be at their best to return from Saturday’s trip to Gateshead Storm with two points, head coach John Fieldhouse says.

Rovers make the long trip to the north east on the back of an impressive victory over West Bowling on their last outing.

Fieldhouse says he is hoping for a similar performance on Saturday against a Storm side that have started the National Conference League Division Three season strongly.

“We got back to something like what we are capable at times against West Bowling but I know that there is still a lot more improvement in us,” he said.

“Gateshead have had a good start to the season, gaining some notable victories, so we know that we will need to be at our best if we are to come away with the win.

“Hopefully the week’s break will have allowed a few bumps and bruises to heal and we should also welcome back a couple of players who have been missing for a number of weeks.

“If we can improve our completion rate, then I have no doubt that the quality we have in the side will allow us to cause teams a lot of trouble.

“It is getting that consistency in our play that will enable us to go on a winning run and move up the table.”

Kick off on Saturday is at 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, Rovers A also return to action on Saturday as they welcome Little Hulton Reds to Monks Sports Club, kick off 2.30pm.

Coach Andy Penny says his side are keen to put a disappointing defeat to Runcorn last time out behind them.

“We were disappointed to lose at Runcorn but that is gone now and we have to look forward,” he said.

“We know that we have a lot of talent in our squad and it is vital that we get back to winning ways at the first opportunity.

“I have been delighted with how we have started the season but know that there is still a lot of hard work for us to do to ensure that we have a successful campaign.”
