Woolston Rovers 37 West Bowling 28

WOOLSTON Rovers bounced back to winning ways by seeing off in-form West Bowling at Monks Sports Club.

Full-back Glyn Roberts returned a personal haul of 20 points, made up of two tries and six goals, while Lewis Hoarty ran in a hat-trick and Will Chadwick added a try, a goal and a drop goal.

Roberts opened his account after just two minutes before Liam Coe's converted try gave the visitors a narrow lead.

Chadwick then raced through between the posts after collecting a high kick before Hoarty sliced through to score after taking Connor Muir's pass.

Hoarty then touched down Roberts' cross-field kick to give Rovers a 20-6 lead at the break.

A fine chip-and-chase from Roberts led to him doubling his try tally before he landed a penalty when West Bowling were penalised for a ball steal.

However, the visitors hit back with three tries in six minutes through Oliver Bartle, Daniel Halmshaw and Robert Young to reduce Rovers' lead to just six points.

Chadwick slotted a drop goal to calm any nerves before Roberts landed another penalty to move them nine points clear.

Hoarty's third try sealed the victory despite the visitors having the final saw with Young's second try.

Rovers travel to Gateshead Storm in their next game on Saturday, May 6.
