Elland 24 Rylands Sharks 36

MATT Wilson says Saturday’s victory over Elland shows how far his Rylands Sharks side have come since last year.

Sharks continue to lead National Conference League Division Three after their third win from four games.

“This is one of those games where last year we would of arrived with a defeated attitude and lose the game,” head coach Wilson said.

“It is down to the character in the group this year that we dug in.

“There’s a lot more to come from us but we are pleased with our start.”

After Elland had taken a 12-0 lead early on, Kyle Sherratt got Rylands on the board before Danny Woods crossed for a try converted by Dec Leonard.

Theo Holt then put Sharks in front, with Leonard’s conversion giving them a 16-12 lead at the interval.

Just as in the first half, the hosts posted two early scores after the break to give them a two-score lead, but Stuart Simm’s brace dragged Rylands back into the contest.

Wilson’s side wrapped up the win late on as Nick Braide and Troy Brophy both crossed the whitewash.

Rylands’ next game sees them welcome Stanley Rangers to Arnold Clark Park on Saturday, April 22, kick off 2.30pm.

Rylands: Luke Walker; Kyle Cherratt, Troy Brophy, Mike Harrison, Stuart Simm; Theo Holt, Dec Leonard; Sam Roberts, Elliot Best, Rob Campbell, Danny Woods, Nick Braide, Craig Harris. Subs: Sean Boyle, Mark Robinson, Aaron Holliday, Mike McMardle.
