Dewsbury Moor Maroons 34 Woolston Rovers 6

HEAD coach John Fieldhouse says Saturday’s defeat to Dewsbury Moor was his sides “worst display of the season.”

A nightmare start saw them conceded four tries in the opening quarter of the game, with Will Maudsley scoring Rovers’ only try before the break.

“That was our worst display of the season so far,” Fieldhouse said.

“Our overall completion rate was only 43 per cent and you are not going to beat sides like Dewsbury Moor with that statistic.

“The game was lost in that opening twenty five minutes where we conceded four tries and only completed one of our first seven sets with the ball.

“We used up a lot of energy in that opening spell and that told as we ran out of a little steam in the last quarter.

“There were not many positives to take from the game and we now need to get back on the training field and try and put things right.”

George Croisdale scored two tries early on for the hosts, with Aiden Ineson and Luke Adamson also breaching the Rovers rearguard and Jacob Flathers adding three conversions.

Rovers’ try came when Glyn Roberts’ high kick was not dealt with and Maudsley pounced on the loose ball to score.

However, tries after the break from Jordan Foster and Max Vernon, plus two more Flathers goals, sealed a convincing victory for the hosts.

Rovers return to action on Saturday, April 22, when they welcome West Bowling to Monks Sports Club, kick off 2.30pm.

Woolston Rovers A 34 Orrell St James A

28 ROVERS A got back to winning ways in an entertaining victory over Orrell St James at Monks Sports Club.

Alex Dunne scored twice for Andy Penny’s side after Liam Sullivan, who also kicked five goals had opened their account to give them a 16-12 lead at the break.

The end-to-end nature of the game continued after the interval, but tries from Sam Vernon, Adam Files and Ryan Cosgrove ensured Rovers were on the right end of the result.

“The heat played a massive part and the big forwards had to battle through it, which they did for the most part,” coach Andy Penny said.

“We played some really nice rugby and scored some top quality tries but we switched off a few times and that allowed Orrell back into the game.

“We put in a more solid performance than we did last week and we were delighted to get back to winning ways immediately.”
