Haresfinch 25 Latchford Albion 30
DEBUTANT Phil Woolacott scored a 78th-minute try to earn Latchford Albion their first victory since promotion to the North West Men’s League Premier Division.
Lewis Johnson, Joe Clarke, Craig Woolvine and George Briggs, who added four goals, also crossed for Albion.
“We are pleased to get our first win, we've shown signs recently of what we can achieve so it's nice to finally get the victory,” coach Dave Yii said.
“We know this is going to be a season of growth and we're confident that each game we'll continue to improve as a squad.”
After the hosts had opened the scoring, Johnson held off two tacklers to score next to the posts before Briggs outpaced the home defence to continue his recent scoring form.
Clarke intercepted a pass and raced 80 metres as Albion led 18-10 at the break despite a late try for the hosts.
Woolvine exploited an overlap after good work from the forwards before Haresfinch hit back with two tries to level matters, the second of which came after Albion full-back Luke Hickman had been sin-binned.
A drop-goal nudged the hosts ahead and the sides traded penalties before Woolacott sold the home defence an outrageous dummy to cross between the posts and win the game for Latchford.
Albion’s next game sees them travel to Heysham Atoms on Saturday, April 22, kick off 2.30pm.
